If You Give a Mouse a Cookie

This week, we're reading If You Give a Mouse A Cookie by Laura Numeroff.  It's a childhood favorite of mine, and my kiddos loved it just as much.

Today, we cuddled up and read it for the first time.  Then, we did our first activity: Sight Word Letter Matching.

The boys worked on letter recognition, spelling, and fine motor skills by matching the letters on clothes pins with the corresponding letter on a craft stick to make words from the story.

I prepped this activity in the morning while they were still in bed, and it took less than fifteen minutes. I used a fine tip permanent marker but any writing instrument would work fine to write the letters and words.

Then for snack, we made chocolate chip cookies.

And by made I mean we took pre-made cookie dough out of a tub, squished it into "C"s for cookie, and baked according to the directions on the container.
